Part 4 - CDs/DVDs - Downloading and Burning the Vista Recovery Disc
THIS PAGE REQUIRES YOU TO DOWNLOAD A DECENT AMOUNT OF DATA. (120MB) IF YOU DO NOT HAVE A HIGH SPEED INTERNET CONNECTION, THEN YOU MAY WANT TO GO TO A PLACE WHERE THERE IS ONE AVAILABLE, LIKE A FRIEND'S HOUSE OR A STARBUCKS.
"Vista Recovery Disc?" you're thinking, "but I'm running Windows XP!" Believe me, I know this. We're simply going to use the facilities that the Vista Recovery Disc provides to help repair your XP installation. For those of you with advanced computer knowledge, you NEED this CD! You CANNOT use the Windows XP Recovery Console!
Now, onto the CD burning!
- You need to download a file. (Save it, do not open it.) Please choose a site below:
- Burn the .iso to a blank CD/DVD using the ISO burning program you installed. Mac users: see the ISO burning guide I linked to earlier.
- Put the CD/DVD into the computer you just used to burn it.
- View the contents of the Vista Recovery Disc in My Computer or equivalent.
Yes: Good! This should mean that this CD/DVD is burnt correctly! :-D Pop out the CD/DVD, get a marker and label this CD/DVD "Vista Recovery Disc". One disc down, one to go. Now, click here to continue.
No: You're going to have to delete the .iso file you downloaded and redownload it and reburn a new CD/DVD.
If you're having trouble burning or booting any of the CDs/DVDs I mention, find a friend who can burn and test these CDs/DVDs for you. Either your batch of blank CDs/DVDs may be bad, or your CD/DVD burner is going.
