Notice: This fix is for Windows XP and not for Windows Vista or Windows 7. Please make sure you always start at the the beginning of the guide.
Clean It Up! - Part 2 - Unhiding Files
First, do the following:
- Click Start
- Click Control Panel
- Double click Folder Options or click on Appearance and Themes and then click on Folder Options
- Select the View tab at the top of the new window
- Under the Hidden files and folders heading, select Show hidden files and folders
- Uncheck the Hide protected operating system files (Recommended) checkbox
- Click Yes on the warning dialog that pops up
- Uncheck the Hide file extensions for known file types checkbox
- Click Apply
- Click OK to close the window
- Close any leftover windows so that you are back at your Desktop
